Youth Parliament Is A Vehicle of Learning – Hon. Samuel Agyekum.

The District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Hon. Samuel Kweku Agyekum at the Inauguration ceremony of the Youth parliament at the Asuogyaman District in an interview with Rite News touched on the mandate of the youth parliament that it is a vehicle of learning and also building up the relationship between the youth and the government.

He also stressed that the objective of the youth parliament is to empower the youth on consultation process of government democracy, partner youth developments, workers in ensuring that the goals of the National Youth Policy are realized, to promote accountability and transparency among community leaders, heads of government departments and other stakeholders for community and youth development.

Youth Parliament is a platform that gives young people the opportunity to make inputs in decision making. It also gives them the platform to stimulate debates about national and developmental issues. Youth Parliament started three years ago at the Upper West region, continued to Bono, Ashanti, Northern, and Upper East, now at Eastern region.

The Director in charge of Resource centers at the Headquarters of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Pascal Assan Edward disclosed that the parliament will be taken to the regional levels and even national if they succeed or achieve the goals of setting up the parliament at district levels.

Being part of the Parliament is a voluntary work, because the individuals who qualify to be candidates must belong to a youth group voluntarily yearning for development of their district. Madam Mirian Mansa Minnah, Regional Director for the National Youth Authority addressed the house that the formation of the Youth Parliament would empower the youth to speak up wherever they find themselves without fear.

The young parliamentarians were given pieces of advice by invited guests.
The newly appointed Speaker of Parliament for the Youth Parliament, Hon. Rutherford Amoyaw also made his submissions thanking the National Youth Authority and the District Chief Executive for making the formation of the youth parliament at the Asuogyaman District a success.

This will help the youths in remote areas to also voice out their problems, and it would be a great news if all districts should benefit from this initiative, he said.

Concluding, the Chairperson, Mr. Saviour Kweku Womenyo advised the parliamentarians to get themselves involved in the developmental agenda of the district.
