NDC National Chair, Muntakar Lead ‘Yenpini’ Demo Against New Voters’ Register

After its first demonstration held against Electoral Commission’s quest for the compilation of a new voters’ register, the Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voters’ Register Coalition continues its second demonstration Tuesday, January 21.
The Coalition led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says there is no need for the compilation of a new register as the current voters’ register is fit for use in the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections and not obsolete as claimed by the EC.

The National chairman and former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and the Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, Hon Muntakar Mubarak were spotted leading masses of people during the demonstration

  Some opposition parties demonstrated against new voters’ register Tuesday’s in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital. This is the second of three planned nationwide strike by the Coalition.

 The demonstration expected to involve some 20,000 people begun from the Aboabu school park through to the Asawase Police station, to the Central Mosque into Asante Mampong Senior high school and a number of other routes before finally ending at the jubilee park.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has offered well coordinated security which ensured law and order as well peaceful demonstration throughout the entire period.


The Inter-Party Resistance Against Voters Register is made up of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Eagle Party, All People’s Party (APC) and Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

Despite the massive demonstrations, the Electoral Commission has set April, 2020 to compile a new register for the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections
