Lower Manya Police Shooting Incident; Krobo Youth Holds One-Week Celebration For Deceased

It was on Wednesday such as this, exactly a week yesterday, when news broke that police in Odumase Krobo has shot a 23 year old Thomas Partey to death in what was described as a clash between the police, the Power Distribution Service (PDS) and some angry Krobo youth.

 As tradition demands and a way to honour his memory, a one-week celebration ceremony was held in the night of Wednesday at the durbar ground of Nene Okonson Baah Mualah, Manya Kpongunor in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

Some angry youth at Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region clashed with the Police at Odumase Krobo Wednesday, 22 May, 2019 over the decision of Power Distribution Services (PDS) to disconnect their power for unpaid bills.

One person, Thomas Partey aged 23, was shot dead while six persons have sustained gun-shot wounds.

The youth organized a spontaneous protest to petition the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Kwaku Simon Tetteh, on their concerns on over billing by PDS and its ongoing corpus.

The residents of Krobo had insisted that the bills were outrageous and demanded the power company investigates the cause of the sudden rise, a call they described as has fallen on death ears.

The over hundreds of sympathizers were into a state of singing and drumming, mourning and sorrow on the night when tributes throughout the night stimulated the public to the reality that thought the deceased was young, he has left much to be remembered.

 Testimonies revealed that, Thomas was an entertainer and son for all persons no matter your age.

Since his passing on, many including Energy Minister, Hon. John Peter Amewu, Eastern Regional Deputy Minister, Hon. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey, the MCE and MP for the area, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh and Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Teilarbi respectively, host of other personages and some media houses have visited and consoled the family over their departed son.

 Thomas Partey was a school drop-out, single, lived with his step mother while the father, Mr. W.O. Partey lives life in Tema. He met his untimely death 22nd day of May 2019 at Agormanya Fire Stone junction at about 16: 30GMT in a police shooting.

The last dress he wore from home was white shirt, a black trousers and a sandals to mark.

The corpse is currently at the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
