Mr Naloufi Fathi a fisherman and researcher who had the platform during the theme 3 of this years workshop at Agadir, Morocco shared with the delegate an improved method of catching octopus. This he mentioned became necessary as a result of the high cost incurred during their fishing activities.
Pots are used for this kind of fishing. The technicality about this has to do with the shape and durability of the pot being used. As captured above, he condemned and promoted the use of spherical pots instead.
To reduce the loss of the pots, he added that the pots would have to be well baked to reduce breakages. Some have sorted to the use of plastics which not environmentally friendly. They pollute the water bodies and also harm other fishes.
When asked about how he is going to educate others about this method, he mentioned his availability and preparedness to seek support for an outreach programme across Africa. Hopefully, the octopus near you will be captured soon.
