Police brace for demo at NPP headquarters

Police re-inforcements have stormed the NPP headquarters bracing for a demonstration by party supporters, Friday afternoon.

Party sources say they have picked up signals of the demonstration which ostensibly will be in reaction to the death of the Upper East regional chairman attacked and killed with acid.

The demonstration, Joy News is learning, is to call for the resignation of national party chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong both of whom have been cited in the internal wrangling that has rocked the party in recent times.

There was heavy security presence at the Asylum Down headquarters of the party when the news about the acid attack and subsequent death broke yesterday but the number of police personnel appears to have been increased as the nation enters day two of the NPP troubles.

“We are always prepared. We are on standby, we are monitoring the situation. This is a full blown operation it is now a national issue it is no more a matter that concerns only the party” Nima police commander Superintendent Nuhu Gango told Joy News ahead of the intended demonstration.

Meanwhile the party’s private security, Invisible Forces, are still holding control of the headquarters.

They have warned the national chairman and general secretary to stay away from the office “until justice is done”.

The continued stance of the Invisible Forces is in defiance of a statement by NPP national Organiser John Boadu and National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku. Meanwhile, Joy News Kwakye Afreh reports that with the exception of police and security officers, the NPP headquarters looks abandoned.

He says no national officer has been in the office Friday and administrative officers have not been allowed to enter the office.
