For whatever reasons, the worrying trend of some people resorting to taking their lives for varying reasons does not seem to be taking a nose-dive, but rather on the ascendancy. Hardly does a day go by without news filtering in from one corner of the country or the other about a teenager, an adult, male or female from varying social status engaging in the act of suicide.
In this case, a 35 year old galamsey operator has hanged himself with a sponge in his own room at Bondaye a suburb of Prestea in the Western Region.
According to one Rockson, an eye witness, the incident occurred on Saturday around 8pm. Rockson narrated that following an alarm from neighbours, he followed up to the scene where he met the worrying spectacle of one Ebo hanging dead from a sponge in his room.
On what could have prompted Ebo to take this drastic action against him, it was speculated that he had prior to the suicide action enagaged his girlfriend in quarrels over monetary issues. The lady in question was said to have subsequently packed bag and baggage and left her. The sources said, Ebo made all necessary frantic efforts to get his girlfriend back to the house and live with him. She was said to have accepted his gesture but indicated that she would only return after she had returned from a journey she was embarking upon. What neighbours can’t tell is whether his girlfriend’s decision to return later was what drove Ebo to take his life.
Ebo who was aid to be a calm person was said to have four children from a previous marriage.
