Mr. Fuseni Abukari, adjudged the district best poultry farmer for the Asuogyaman district who was recently awarded during the Farmers Day celebrations has called on the government to concentrate more on the agriculture and farmers in particular. Mr. Fuseini made the call in an interview with Rite news, stressing that the without the farmers and the agric sector as a whole, the country’s economy shall be virtually non-existent.
He wondered why even in the farming sector, the government only seems to be concentrating on the cocoa sector such as giving bonuses to cocoa farmers as well as scholarship to their children, a development that is not extended to other farmers.
On the issue of the banks not releasing loans to them, he called on the government to impress upon the financial institutions to assist them with loans.
Mr. Fuseini also added that labour was equally difficult to come by as well as problems with land acquisition. That is not all; the high cost of fertilizer is another problem which he said government is unwilling to subsidies on their behalf, adding that loans from the banks can help resolve this.
