Planting Of Food to Promote Food Security and Foreign Exchange

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Deputy Minister of food and agriculture Mr. William Quaitoo has noted that government’s flagship programme, ‘Operation Planting for Food and Jobs’ is aimed at promoting food security to improve exportation.

The deputy minister who was speaking on Rite FM’s Morning Ride on Monday told host Krobea Asante that aside this, one other purpose of the programme is to help reduce importation to maintain or control the dollar rate.

According to him, many plans have been rolled out to help farmers engaged in the production of rice, maize, soya beans, sogum, etc and the programme will also focus on helping poultry farmers since many in the hospitality industry including hotels and food joint operators depend on their products.

Mr. William Quaitoo was confident that government will continue to roll out the necessary plans to help Ghanaian farmers.
