NFFAWAG boss maintains push for recognition of commercial farmers to achieve agric policies

Chairman of the National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana, Davies Narh Korboe is reiterating his call for government to involve commercial farmers into its major policies to ensure their successful implementation.

Additionally, the NFFAWAG boss said while government is committed to achieving the theme for the just ended 34th national farmers day celebrations; Agriculture – moving Ghana beyond aid, the role of commercial farmers in the successful execution of the farmers day cannot be overemphasized.

Farmer Davies in an interview with Austin Ofori Addo on Saturday’s Agric Forum said the accomplishment of government’s flagship programs such as Planting for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory, One Village, One Dam, One District, One Warehouse, etc. largely depends on the roles played by commercial farmers.

To him, while government remains committed to prioritizing small holder farmers in its activities towards the execution of these policies and programs, same recognition extended to commercial farmers under the various policies and programs will drive the country towards achieving the Ghana Beyond Aid dream and the attainment of the various agriculture policies.

“As government remains committed to its flagship programs including the Planting for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory, One Village, One Dam, One District, One Warehouse, there is the need to involve the Farmer Based Organizations. The commercial farmers should get the same support as what is being given the small holder farmers,” Mr. Korboe averred.

Citing the theme for the 34th national farmers’ day on Friday: Agriculture – moving Ghana beyond aid, the Board Chairman Of Farm Management Services Limited posited that dram can only achieved through agriculture.

“The best drive towards achieving the theme for the 34th national farmers’ day, ‘Agriculture – moving Ghana beyond aid’ and Ghana’s strive to move from aid to trade is agriculture. What we need is to ensure that small holder farmers ensure food security while commercial farmers drive industrialization to address the nagging challenges of post-harvest losses, ensuring efficiency in logistics and production cost.

Mr. Korboe also expressed confident in the capabilities of commercial farming being the main drive of the nation’s industrialization while small holder farmers ensure food security.

“Let the small holder farmers drive food security and commercial farmers drive industrialization,” Chairman Davies argued, adding that the only way agriculture can be successfully developed is yjr farmers can break even or make profit on their production is for farmers to produce at a lower cost.
