I Have No Regrets Going Into Farming – Blind Farmer

By Austin Ofori:

On the 4th of December, 2015, Mr. Stephen Nyarko was adjudged Asuogyman district’s best farmer in the Eastern Region. This seems to have spurred him on as he has come to appreciate farming a good choice for which he has absolutely no regrets.

He told Rite FM that he has absolutely no regrets involving himself in agriculture, adding that agriculture has helped to send his children to school. Mr. Nyarko however added that he can cultivate in large quantities if he gets the necessary financial support to expand his production.

Mr. Nyarko who was speaking on Tuesday’s ‘Feed the Future Platform’ on the Rite Morning Ride under the Mobilizing Action Towards Agriculture Sector Improvement (MAASI) programme said his only occupation was farming. According to him, despite his disability he still resorts to the use of cutlasses.

On how he’s able to identify the crops from the weeds, he told Owuraku Asamoah, the host that he lived with his grandfather in his younger days who also was a farmer and engaged him in his farming activities. He said with this background, he can accurately tell the difference between the textures of the weeds from the crops he planted. By this, he avoids clearing the weeds together with his crops.
