Youth Advised To Venture Into Agriculture

By Austin Ofori:

Several concerns have been raised concerning young people shying away from agriculture and the fact that Ghana’s farming sector is dominated only by an aging group, a situation that has been described as unhealthy for our agricultural sector.

In view of this, Pastor Christian Mensah, a Minister of God in charge of the Konkone Apostolic church in Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern region has advised the youth to consider the option of farming as a source of livelihood especially since there are limited white collar jobs in the country.

According to him, farming does not require any formal education and that anybody desirous of an opportunity in the field can venture into the business with little background in it. Pastor Mensah who has also been awarded  the best poultry farmer in the Upper Manya Krobo District explained to Rite news that the community stand to benefit more when the youth are producing because the community will develop through income generated from the youth .

He stated that the farmers continue to produce more but their biggest challenge is the poor nature of their roads in the communities which he is pleading should be addressed, adding that government should encourage the rural banks to support the farmers with loans to expand their farming activities.
