YKMA In Tango With Families Over Lands

A frustrated family head of the Tetteh Banor family, Mr. Nicholas Tetteh has been pouring out his frustrations with Rite news regarding an allegation that the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly has snatched a family land located at Bueyonya.

According to Mr. Tetteh, the land which was hitherto used by the family for farming purposes has been forcefully taken over by the Assembly on which a school building has been put up, adding that the family has not been compensated since the assembly took over their land in 2013. This according to him has left the family frustrated since the land on which the family did their farming activities served as a source of livelihood for them.

Mr. Nicholas Tetteh reiterated that since the Assembly would not listen to their plight, they have decided to petition the Education office to the effect that the land on which the school is located belong to his family which they intend taking back, irrespective of the fact that the school is already situated on it, adding that the family was contemplating taking a legal action to reclaim what belongs to them or be given adequate compensation.

Meanwhile, Municipal Chief Executive of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, honourable Andrews Sodah while confirming the issue to Rite news said he had interacted with the family on the issue. Explaining what plans the assembly currently has towards compensating affected farmers, he indicated that they had reached an agreement with the families to, by the end of February, either pay off some of them in full while the rest await their turn at a later date or partly pay each of the nine affected families while the balance is paid at a later date.
