By Prince Paul Amuzu:
Some mango farmers in the Yilo Krobo municipal have called for government intervention to confront what they call challenges bedeviling their occupation.
One of them, Mr. Teye Charles who has bene speaking with Rite FM, has lamented seriously on some of the challenges facing them as mango farmers, leading with the government for assistance.
Speaking in an interview with Krobea Asante, host of Rite FM’s Morning Show during the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the morning show, the mango farmer said the main problems facing them as mango farmers ranges from the lack of road network in the farming areas for easy transportation of their farm products to the lack of an irrigation system to provide water for the farms, a situation that has become critical as a result of the mango seedlings dying off due to lack of access to water.
But that’s not all of their challenges as they also complained about the difficulties they encounter in accessing loans from the financial institutions as most of them demand various collaterals as security and coupled with the high interest rates charged by them.
Mr. Teye therefore pleaded with the government to fulfill its one village, one dam project as well as one district, one factory promise to help curtail the irrigation problem among other challenges.
He also pleaded with the government to provide them with good road networks for the easy transportation of their products as well as the creation of credit facilities such as loans which could be easily accessible and affordable at a very good rate for the expansion of the agricultural business activities.
