The best farmer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality in Friday’s 33rd National Farmers’ Day, Mr. Joseph Kwao is targeting winning the Eastern regional award in 2018.
Mr. Kwao said that he was very happy to be nominated and adjudged the best farmer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
According to him, he started farming as a business since 1994 and even won the Best Youth Farmer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality in 1999.
He added that the current awards he has received which is the best farmer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality is going to propel him to work hard to win the regional award next year.
Speaking in an interviewed with Captain Adabuga during the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the morning show to express his views on the criteria used in awarding the farmers, the award winner said he keeps proper records of his farming business.
According to him, he practices agronomy, while cultivating maize, cassava, plantain, garden egg, tomatoes and mango.
He said while he also rears livestock such as poultry, goats, cattle and sheep among others, he employs labourers from the community to work on the farm to make a living for themselves.
According to him, he met all the requirements of the criteria that the technical team used for the nomination and selection of the award system and he was indeed very happy to be recognized as the best municipal farmer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
Eighteen farmers were rewarded on Friday during the celebrations of the 33rd National Farmers’ Day at Somanya.
The Yilo Krobo Farmers’ Day celebrations was part of the nationwide observation of the day set aside to recognize the hard work of the country’s farmers.
The event which took place at the Akutunya lorry station at Somanya also saw seventeen others receiving deserving prizes on the day.
