YARA GHANA IS OUT OF GOVERNMENT FERTILIZER SUBSIDY 

The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of crops Hon. Amed Alhassan Yakubu has confirmed that, Yara Ghana Ltd. a leading fertilizer distributor in the country has pulled out of government fertilizer subsidy programme.

He said this upon the communication they had with Yara Ghana indicating that, they may continue to participate in the programme but not now.

Hon. Yakubu speaking to Rite news in an interview said, ‘’Yara Ghana has state their reasons for drawing back from the programme’’ noting that, the company is comfortable with fact that, the government was able to complete payment of 2013 subsidy programme this year with outstanding debts this year.

According to Hon. Yakubu, Yara company also stated their part, when they said that, if assurances on how 2015 subsidy programme will be done well to prevent occurring debt in the programme, then, they may reconsider their stand.

He added that, despite the challenge, the company (Yara) product will be available in the open market to enable farmers who just started planting for the season to get access to get product in any quantity.
