Women group calls for action against Ken Agyapong

The Women for Justice in the Ashanti Region has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Ajaho, to call the MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to order for his disparaging remarks against President John Dramani Mahama and a female radio presenter.

The women said the action of the MP has brought the office of the president into disrepute and cast a dark slur on the ‘august House of Parliament’.

The spokesperson for the group, Mrs Alice Anthony, called on all women groups in Ghana at a press conference in Kumasi ‘to rise and speak against Mr Agyepong’s brazen disregard for the dignity of the Ghanaian woman.’

Mr Agyepong in a radio programme recently, described a female radio presenter, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly called Afia Schwarzenegger, among others, as a prostitute and an HIV patient.

The women have, subsequently, attached a copy of the tape recordings to their petition and forwarded it to the Speaker for prompt action.

‘Mr Speaker, it is our firm belief that you will exercise your enormous powers in calling to order the Honourable Member of Parliament for Assin Central,’ Mrs Anthony said.

‘We find such damaging remarks against a female as extremely unfortunate and offensive to the nation as a whole,’ she said.
