Weightlifting equipment wastes at Tema port

Information reaching Rite Sports indicates that, The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) is in a race with time, as it struggles to raise GH₵7, 229. 68 to salvage two sets of equipment that have been lying at the Tema port for the past four months.

According to a highly placed source, the equipment worth $15,000, were donated to the GWF through a partnership with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) last September in Hamburg Germany but had still not been cleared from the Tema Harbor due to lack of funds.

Documents sighted by the Rite FM Sports, revealed that initially the cost for clearing the equipment was GH₵5,000 but the amount rose to GH₵7, 229. 68 after incurring damage.

This situation last week compelled the exasperated Federation to petition the National Sports Authority (NSA) and ministry of youth and Sports (MOYS) to assist with the clearing of the equipment but they had still not received a response.
