We will not exchange our cocoa for rubber- Asikesu cocoa farmers

Suhum akyeamehene, Nana Kofi Obeng in the Eastern Region has called on the chief of Asikesu to have peaceful negotiation with cocoa farmers in the area before they cut down their cocoa trees.

Some cocoa farmers in the Lower West Akyem Municipality speaking to Rite news agitated that, they will not agree with the chief of the area to cut down their cocoa trees and release the lands to a rubber company.

According to Abusuapayin Odibu Darko who agreed with the cocoa farmers explained that, the self- styled chief who wants to the land from them does not even have authority over the lands let alone taking it from them.

Abusuapayin Odibu Darko said he handed the lands and the stool properties to him to be the caretaker due to his health but not in a position as a chief.

.He noted that, the land belong to the traditional council and for that matter, they can retrieved it back from the cocoa farmers at any point in time. He has therefore called for peace and unity among the people of Asikasu .

Nana Kofi Obeng has called for peaceful negotiation which will benefit both parties
