We Have Not Installed Any Chief In Akyem Apedwa – Kontihene

Nana Baffour Owurae Antwi II, Kontihene of A kyem Apedwa in the Abuakwa traditional council of the Eastern region has stated that the right kingmakers of Apedwa has not installed any chief after the demise and burial of Osabarima Obeng Akwa Kwarifa II on 1sth November, 2015 and that the recently installed chief was illegal and untraditional, hence have no recognition in the Agona Royal family.

According to Nana Baffour, the illegal installation of a chief has brought instability and unrest in the area, however collaborative effort of the Kyebi divisional police have reversed the situation which was a recipe for commotion. He explained that the legitimate Kingmakers, Obaapanin Asantewaa Aboagye, queen mother and Obaapanin Yaa Tarkwaa, head of Apedwa Agona Royal family were not duly informed  and that meant that those who installed the chief had violated the Akyem Abuakwa traditional council installation code and have questions to answer.

He stated that, an injunction has been placed on the newly installed chief pending court ruling. “We are working hard to put the palace in shape following which the legitimate Kingmakers will choose the right person to go through initiation rites, and after that the people of Akyem Apedwa will have a chief” he added in an interview.

Nana has therefore pleaded with the people not to overlook the codes and procedures of the Abuakwa traditional council adding that a new chief will soon be installed legitimately, however called for sanity to prevail in the area.
