We don’t recognize newly enstooled Ga chief – Minister

The Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo says the Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Security Council do not recognise Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as Ga Mantse.

According to him, the bodies mentioned above only accept Nii Adama Laste II as chief of the Ga state because due process was followed before his enstoolment, unlike the new chief.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’, Mr Afotey Adbo said “As far as I’m concerned, Nii Adama Laste II is the Ga Chief and he is the one recognized by the Regional Security and Coordinating Council.”

Dr Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was enstooled as Ga Mantse Sunday, August 2, 2015 by the Dzasetse of the Ga State, Nii Tetteh Kwei II and heads and elders of the Ga paramount Stool.

Speaking at a ceremony to introduce the new Ga Mantse, Nii Dr Kwei, who is also the kingmaker, expressed satisfaction at the process, adding that whoever was occupying the stool could not be accorded the status of a Ga King since that person was not properly installed.

But in a dramatic turn of events, the Ga Paramount Stool has disowned the newly installed chief.

In a statement, the stool said there was a Ga Mantse in the person of Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse II.

The statement further stated that Nii Tackie Adama Latse had been performing his traditional duties and has been gazetted by the National House of Chiefs in the National Register of Chiefs as Paramount Chief and Ga Mantse.

He succeeds the late Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II.
The Regional Minister said the only person who will be recognized as the Ga Mantse is the one who has been gazetted by the National House of Chiefs – and that is Nii Adama Latse.

“If someone has already been gazetted by the Chieftaincy Institution then as a regional minister, it is a straightforward case because the one who is recognized by the institution is the one that will hold.

“Even if it is my father or mother, it is not about my interest, it is about what the institution says so whoever is recognized by law is the one I will recognize”, he added.

He said, the enstoolment of the new chief was against the law and is targeted at destroying the peace in the region.

He warned that if anyone wanted to mar the peace the region has been enjoying for the past years, “then that person will be dealt with appropriately”.

He said, “any individual who wants to muddy the waters, or have his way unlawfully, will be made to face the law. We are not joking at all, this is a serious institution, and we cannot allow people to do things that affect the development of the country.

“We will let the law and the security teach you a lesson and you will go and rest in prison, those who are willing to be law abiding will be allowed to live in the society”.
