We Can’t Sacrifice Crop Farming For Livestock – Bisiw

Deputy Minister of agric in charge of livestock, Dr Hanna Bisiw has made it clear that farming consists of the rearing of animals and crop production and they all deserve equal attention. The deputy minister who was speaking on the Rite FM’s Morning Ride in reaction to the Fulani menace and the subsequent destruction of farmlands by their cattle said categorically that one aspect of farming, which is crop production, cannot be sacrificed for livestock farming.

She added that said we cannot allow farmers that keep animals to destroy the farms of other farmers that cultivate crops such as maize, cassava, cocoyam others foods. According to the deputy minister, all sectors of the agric sector are crucial and the two go hand in hand to ensure the success of the sector. To her, we should treat both crop and animal farming as a means of priority.

On the Fulani issue which has gained public attention over the past few weeks, she said it was about time we adopt the ranch system of farming which is very big cage to cage the animals.
