Zongo youth in Lower Manya district in the eastern region have debunked what they term as the wrong perception that zongo youth are violent. According to the Zongo youth, the negative tag about their youth and the Islam religion as a whole is of great worry to them since they are not people who are always seeking and breeding trouble.
Mr Lamin Mohammed who is the Zongo youth leader at Agomanya in the Lower Manya Krobo district said unscrupulous people who are non-Muslims often fomented trouble in the name of Islam, a development he described as very worrisome and went ahead to cite some examples of situations where people created trouble, claiming to be from the Zongos but who were later found to be non-Muslims.
He stated that most of the problems created during public gatherings among others were not created by Zongo youth, adding that the youth from the Zongos are very responsible.
He therefore appealed to the general public to stop tagging the youth as confusion makers and violent people.
