The Returnees Diaspora Integrated Organization (RIDEO), has said that the repackaging of agriculture for the youth on the African continent holds the key to ending unregulated migration.
According to RIDEO, the over 45,000 youth who leave the country annually are largely ‘frustrated’ persons seeking to find meaningful lives.
Speaking to journalists, the Corporate Affairs Director of RIDEO, Mr. Andrew Antariwini, argued that “when agriculture is repackaged, such that the youth’s agricultural skill is sharpened in recommended agricultural technologies and fair-trade is promoted, the many youth out there will have reason to stay back and contribute through agric.”
He added that, “when fair trade is promoted such that those youth in Agriculture’s farm produce are guaranteed a regular market, it promotes industrialization which turns to employ more of the youths.
That discourages unregulated migration.” RIDEO on its part has already developed agricultural modules aimed at providing the youth with relevant technological skills and provide readily available market to them.
“Mr. Antariwini noted that “the purpose of opting for agriculture these days has shifted from the subsistence one to commercial such that, the youth who enter do so with a profit making mindset.
So if you give them startup capitals of any amount without creating systems which will readily buy their produce, they end up dealing with same frustrations as not been employed.”
He added that“this is why we at RIDEO are practicing what we call agriculture incubation where beneficiary youths are counseled, trained and supported with starter packs and finally assisted to get ready market in our social business module.
This way, you solve the ultimate problem of frustration after production and by extension, discourage the youth from embarking on such dreadful unregulated migration.”
