The President of the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, Nana Oboade Opambour Bonsu has agreed with the fact that repackaging of the agric sector for the youth especially in Ghana holds the key to ending unregulated migration.
According to Retunes Diaspora Integrated Migration (RIDEO), the over 45,000 youth who leave the country annually are largely frustrated persons seeking to find meaningful lives outside the borders of the country.
Nana Oboade speaking in an interview with Rite news concerning this particular issue noted that most of the country’s youth, particularly in the Brong Ahafo region have developed the insatiable desire to seek greener pastures outside the borders of the country.
According to him, this was against the backdrop of the fact that they can venture into the many farming opportunities, adding that the Brong Ahafo region is a forest zone with a good number of farming activities.
‘Despite these opportunities, the youth are still migrating to other countries because most of them are frustrated.’ According to him, the country’s leaders should have made the agric sector more attractive to bring on board the youth to take advantage of its advantages.
Nana Opambour expressed regret that the agric sector has been abandoned while blaming the leaders for abandoning the agric sector.
