U.S commits $11,000 to support palm oil production
The Government of the United States of America has committed $11,000.00 oil extraction machinery to support the production of palm oil in Ghana.
The fund targeting six communities in the New Juaben Municipality seeks to create employment and sustainable development for various women groups that are in the production of palm oil business.
The initiative is under the US Ambassador Self Help Project. It is to be managed by the Peace and Love Association.
Jimmy Mauldin, Economic Counselor of the US Embassy in Ghana, inaugurating the Oil Palm Extraction project at Asekesu, a farming community in the New Juaben Municipality said the US Government has since the introduction of the Self Help Project in 1990 committed $1.7million in support of various projects in the West African nation.
According to him, from January to till date, the US Embassy had supported 11 organizations with a total of $80,000 under the project, which was expected to make an impact on the beneficiary communities.
Communities wanting to access the grant have to initiate a sustainable project worth considering by the US Government.
New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kwabena Okyere-Kusi, commenting on the initiative expressed his appreciation to the US Government for creating a sustainable employment in a complete rural community.
Ms Abigail Ghama, Secretary to the Peace and Love Association, told the gathering the provision of the palm oil extraction facility is handy since members of the Association could now produce more to make more money.
She, however, appealed to the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders to help the Association to find market for their produce.
