TWO DAY SEMINAR HELD AT LOWER MANYA ON MAASI PROJECT

The mobilization towards Agricultural Sector Improvement (MAASI), has begun a two-day seminar geared towards the building of capacity on the department of Agriculture, municipal and district assemblies as well as farmer based organizations at the Lower Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region.

Elaborating on the project, Programs Manager of Rite FM, Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah who doubles as the coordinator of MAASI, said the purpose of the seminar is to establish how well the decentralization policy of the government in agricultural production is being appreciated. Another objective according to the coordinator is to ensure the increment of funds meant for the successful production of agriculture as well as to look forward to the promotion of participatory development of plan in the budget for the department of agriculture.

Five district assemblies in the Eastern region including Yilo Krobo, Manya Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, Asuogyaman and Akuapem North as well as the Shai Osudoku district in the Greater Accra region are the beneficiary districts benefitting from the project.

Mr. Asamoah revealed that the MAASI project which is an initiative of Rite FM, is supported by the USAID and the Ghana Feed the future Agricultural policy project.

He said the radio component of the program dubbed ‘’Feed the Future Platform’,’ is another avenue for farmers, farmer based organizations, officers of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, extension officers, committees on finance in district assemblies, to speak out and improve the agriculture sector.

He advised farmers to join farmer based organizations to get adequate information on farming.

The entire project is a fifteen month exercise spanning from the 15th of July 2015 to the 15th of October, 2016.
