The Mango Business is gradually becoming an alternative livelihood for many in Somanya in the Eastern Region but according to the local sellers, the Business is fading away gradually due to the minute attention giving them during the major season this year by the farmers.
This was revealed to Rite FM News by the Queen Mother for the Yilo Krobo Mango Sellers Association Madam Vivian Narh when the news team paid a courtesy call to her house.
According to her, the mango farmers during mango season give more attention to the exporters and the food processing companies giving them a small quantity the produce to sell.
She stated that the crises had become a worry to the sellers as many of her members have petition her to place measures to address the canker on their behalf since the local sellers play an instrumental role as far as the mango business is concern in the Yilo Krobo Municipal.
Madam Vivian lamented on the high rate of infested mangoes and advised the farmers to observe good farming practices to ensure that quality and healthy mangoes are produced for human consumption
But ironically mango farmers are of the view that, the local sellers in Somanya absorb just a mite of their produce every season that is why they sort to bigger processing companies and export. Mr. Emmanuel Annan the zonal organizer said.
