Transport fares to be reduced by 5% effective Friday

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is set to announce 5% reduction in transport fares following the reduction of fuel prices by 10%.

There were calls for a corresponding reduction in transport fares to reflect new fuel prices.

The GPRTU and others initially rejected those calls insisting that the transport fares are not only influenced by the cost of fuel.

The transport owners, however, have beaten a retreat by reducing transport fares by half of the rate reduction in the fuel prices.

However Speaking to RITE FM News, the General Secretary of National Transport Coordinating Council, Alhaji Aliu Baba Super Star said his outfit has resolved to reduce the fare by 5% on Friday, 9th January, 2015.

Alhaji Aliu Baba further explained that that his outfit will do the calculation for the drivers and they will post it at their various loading points for passengers to see”.
