The use of radio has promoted Agriculture

The Director of Farm Radio International Mr. Benjamin Fiafor has said that the use of electronic media such as radio has helped to disseminate information to farmers.

Mr. Fiafor speaking to Ritenews on the World Radio Day today has noted that, the use of radio has promoted agriculture.

He added that through the radio, farmers have been educated on good agricultural practices, they have been informed about commodity prices and they have been supplied with reliable weather report among many other achievements.

According to him, there are some radio stations like Rite FM who design agric programs to educate farmers and address challenges confronting them, adding that, this has significantly promoted the agric sector.

He said there could be a challenge of extension service delivery or inadequate extension in certain farming areas, issues of post-harvest losses, availability of combine harvesters etc. to farmers but as soon as all these are discussed on the radio, it brings all stakeholders on board to address the prevailing problems.
