Madam Afia Owusu Nyantakyi, CEO of the Agribusiness Center in the Central region has tasked the nation’s young people to take advantage of and embrace the glowing business opportunities in the agricultural sector.
Miss Nyantakyi was speaking in Accra on Tuesday where various stakeholders graced a workshop organized by the African Youth Network for Agricultural Transportation, (AYNAT) held at the Accra International Conference Center.
The event which was held under the theme, ‘Implementing Ghana’s Youth Policy On Agriculture’ was aimed at building and strengthening the capabilities of the youth in agriculture in order to scale up food security, foster an enabling environment that will create avenues for sustainable agribusiness and also to advocate for the development and effective implementation of policies related to youth in agriculture.
Addressing participants, Madam Afia Owusu Nyantakyi who is the CEO of the Agribusiness Center in the Central region and who sat in as chairperson of the event called on young people to embrace the glowing business opportunities in the agricultural sector. She noted that though it is a difficult sector, it still has a lot of opportunities compared to the non-existent white collar jobs young graduates always looked out for.
Citing some of the several opportunities in the sector which they can take advantage of, madam Nyantakyi mentioned such opportunities as Aquaculture, crop farming, livestock farming, poultry among others.
She however called on them to try and acquire the requisite skills and knowledge needed in agricultural production so that they would come into the agric sector armed with the necessary knowledge in order to help the growth of the agriculture sector.
In conclusion, she noted that the backbone of the country strongly depends on its agricultural base where both the undergraduates and the uneducated can involve themselves in, adding that agriculture is a practical field work which involves a value chain.
The African Youth Network for Agriculture Transformation (AYNAT) is a network made up of young people trained by African Lead 2 at its Champions for Change leadership in agriculture workshop.
