Audio: Suspend Lower Manya Constituency Executives – NDC Group

A group calling itself the Concerned Branch Executive Members of the National Democratic Congress, NDC in the Lower Manya Krobo constituency in the eastern region has called on the leadership of the national executives of the party to within 48 hours suspend their constituency executives or they advise themselves.

The group who made the call on Wednesday at a  press conference at the Liberty Recreational Center at Kodjona  levelled a lot of damning allegations against the executive members which according to them contributed to the party’s abysmal performance in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections in the constituency.-

Mr. David Dunyo, secretary to the group who addressed the press conference accused the executives of supporting one candidate during the NDC parliamentary primaries in November, 2015, contrary to the party’s overall interest. This he described as illegal, adding that the executives took this step ‘for their personal gains which brought serious cracks in the party.’

He also accused the executives of placing untrained party agents at some polling stations or one agent instead of two. ‘They placed untrained party agents at some polling stations and also placed one person instead of two people in order to make money for themselves which resulted in some polling stations not having party agents till noon during the polls,’ Mr. Dunyo charged to wild chants from agitated party faithful clad in red arm bands.

Another allegation the group leveled against the constituency executives bordered around monies meant for payment of party agents contracted by the party to keep an eagle eye over the 2016 elections.

The concerned branch executive members accused the leadership of the party of failing to pay the agents though the monies meant for their payment came from the regional secretariat. ‘They borrowed the money meant for the polling agents which had been enveloped and sealed from the regional secretariat. How can the elephant borrow the food of the ant?’ Mr. Dunyo quizzed.

The group while demanding for the immediate suspension of their executives wondered why the party ‘aided in transporting some individual to register at different constituents which their main rivals, the NPP were the ultimate beneficiaries, stressing that the 8,179 previous votes difference between the NDC and the NPP in the previous election prior to the 2016 elections was enough to guarantee an NDC victory in Lower Manya.

‘In spite of the above, we the members of the above group therefore want the leadership of the constituency executives of the Lower Manya Krobo NDC to be suspended or resign their positions due to their misconducts which led to the abysmal performance in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.’

Party faithful in the constituency have bemoaned the sharp decline in the parliamentary fortunes of the party. Quoting figures to buttress this point, the secretary to the group noted that the sitting Member of Parliament, Mr. Okletey Terlabi in the 2012 parliamentary elections polled 24360 against the NPP candidate’s 16181 which was contested by Mis Dufie Dedo Agyarko.  This figure however declined sharply in the 2016 elections with the incumbent MP, Okletey Terlabi garnering 19710 while his closest contender, Samuel Ayertey Nuettey of the NPP got 19383, a difference of only 370 votes.

This has not gone down well with the constituency executives who are therefore calling for the head of their executives.

Meanhwhile, Constituency chairman of the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo, Mr. Walter Homenu declined any response to the allegations when Rite news contacted him.
