Stop Tagging Award Winners With Politics – Mr. George Asamoah Amankwah

By: Austin Ofori Addo

2014 National Best Barmer, George Asamoah Amankwah has urged Ghanaians to stop tagging farmers who win district, regional and national awards with politics because the criteria to select the farmers has nothing to do with politics.

Mr. Edward Asadu speaking on the Rite Morning Ride noted that if this is not stopped, it will come to a time those who deserve the awards will never par take in the Farmers’ Day Celebrations because if they did, Ghanaians would believe they belong to the party in power and that they earned their awards through that identity which may not be so.

He added that best farmers selected in a particular political party’s regime should not be tagged as necessarily belonging to that party. Citing himself as an example, Mr. Asadu noted that he earned his award during the era of the NDC though he has nothing to do with the NDC as a political party.

According to him, there was nothing special about the awards given the farmers which should warrant their tagging with political farmers because the houses and cars given out are properties most farmers already own.
