Stop Discouraging Women from Going in To Politics

By Prince Paul Amuzu:

The Assembly member for Nkurakam Electoral Area, Honorable Evelyn Teiko who doubles as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the group, Krobos Patriot for Development has expressed disappointment at the manner in which the minority (NDC) in parliament has treated Madam Otiko Dzaba, minister designate for Gender, Children and Women Protection during her vetting process.

Speaking in an interview with Rite mid-day news, the PRO expressed her frustration at the whole vetting process. According to her, ‘the manner in which the vetting process was carried out by the vetting committee especially the minority (NDC) will discourage women, particularly from the Kroboland from going into politics or seeking public positions in future.’

According to the honorable Assembly member, no woman of Kroboland has ever been nominated for such a position in the history of the Krobos.

She nevertheless expressed relief and contentment, following the eventual approval of madam Otiko through a voting process on Monday after which she was subsequently sworn in by President Akuffo Addo.

‘I’m very happy and grateful for her approval on Monday as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection,” madam Teiko exclaimed.

She was hopeful that madam Otiko would use her position to encourage and empower women to go into politics and other developments circles to enhance their lives and also contribute to the development of the nation.
