Stakeholders Only After Personal Interests

Eastern Regional chairman for the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen, Nana Apedwahene Anim has played down claims by groups and individuals who create the impression to be assisting local farmers. According to him, such claims need to be treated with the contempt it deserves as such groups and individuals are instead taking advantage of farmers, feeding fat at their expense and rather making profit out of their toil and the sweat of the ordinary farmer.

According to the chairman who spoke with Rite news, though there are companies and NGOs thriving on the focus of assisting the Ghanaian farmer, most of them harbour the sinister and selfish motive of making their own profit from the farmers at the expense of the poor farmer.

To him, such stakeholders investing ‘small’ amounts of money into an agricultural venture and reaping huge profits from their minimal investments is ample evidence that most of the groups that seek to push the sector are only bent on making personal profits at their expense.

Nana was also unhappy that several FBOs with similar interests are also operating in the name of helping the poor farmer.

He took on politicians whom he accused of almost collapsing the agric sector, adding that they make investments into the sector only because they expect some returns.

On loans, the eastern regional chairman expressed regret that farmers are not getting loans from the banks though they claim they have products that support the cause of farmers. To him, only rich farmers benefit from bank loans as the products are refused most ordinary farmers.
