South Africa: Minimum wage hike for farmworkers

The labour minister, Mildred Oliphant, has announced that the minimum wage for farmworkers is to go up from R2 420 to R2 606 a month with effect from March 1 2015.

The weekly wage rises from R558 to R601 and the daily rate goes up from R111 to R120 with effect from the same date.

The labour department said: “The sectoral determination broadly deals with the protection of workers involved in farm activities.

“The determination regulates minimum working hours, minimum wages, number of leave days and termination rules,” said the department.
