Somanya: Kids Gun Play Turns Tragic As Boy Shoots Brother Dead

Police in Somanya in the Eastern region are investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting to death of a four-year-old boy by his older brother on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased, Alex Ologo was shot in the head at close range by his six-year-old brother (name withheld).

Alex was accidentally shot and killed by his brother apparently during a game of ‘cops and robbers’ when, reports say, he pointed a locally manufactured gun he didn’t know was loaded which they found while playing in their grandfather’s room at Sra, a suburb of Somanya.

Eyewitness accounts gathered by Rite news’ Austin Ofori Addo who was at the scene moments after the tragedy said neighbours heard the gun shot from the room where the minors were playing.

The parents of the boys were not at home when the younger boy shot his brother to death, neighbours say.

Viewer Discretion

Mr. Benjamin Tetteh who claims to be a former national security operative and owner of the gun explained that he kept the unregistered gun in the room to ward off thieves who constantly harassed residents of the neighbourhood.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the Atua Government Hospital while the owner of the gun has been taken into the custody of the Somanya police to assist in investigations.

Somanya Police commander ASP Isaac Otsin said the police rushed to the scene after his office was informed of the incident, adding that Police investigations into the incident continues.
