By Rite news desk

Fire personnel at Somanya have successfully put out a blazing fire that engulfed a two bedroom apartment at Lowcost, a suburb of Somanya in the Eastern Region on Sunday afternoon.

It is unclear what triggered the fire, which lasted for several hours, but an eyewitness told Rite News the fire has ravaged properties and money worth over 10,000 cedis.

“Upon reaching the place, the information I had was that the wife of the landlord was outside and their daughter told her that she saw a fire in the tenants’ room. The tenant had also left the house,” he narrated.

The fire proceeded to spread to the rest of the house as they called the fire service but before the service reached the room, the house was engulfed by the fire.

The wife of the landlord, a businesswoman reportedly had GHc 10,000 in their room which was lost to the fire.

He also noted that fire service eventually “came in to survey the place and they left.” “As I speak there are small fires in the room so individuals are fetching water with buckets to quench the rest of the fires.

Police have also come and the police commander for Somanya, ASP Isaac Osin has been on the ground and they just took some pictures and then they left us,” the eyewitness added.
