Somanya Arson Attack- Man Fights For His Life

By Austin Ofori Addo:

A middle-aged man resident in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo municipality of the Eastern region is struggling for his life following a suspected arson attack which has left him in a crucial battle for his life.

Mr. Kissinger Brown who is currently receiving treatment at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra was on Wednesday dawn set ablaze by suspected arsonists who set his room on fire while he slept.

Mr. Brown who was trapped in the inferno for long hours suffered serious burns before he was rescued by sympathizers and quickly rushed to the Atua Government hospital. The severity of his burns meanwhile compelled authorities at the hospital to issue them with a referral to Korle-bu.

An eyewitness, madam Saki Faustina who is also a resident in the area told Rite news that she heard her landlord screaming for help at around 12:18am on Wednesday. According to her, she attempted opening the door in order to create an escape route for her landlord who was trapped in the raging fire.

Madam Saki narrated that she was unsuccessful in her bid due to the intensity of the fire which compelled her to shout for assistance from neighbours. Her screams she said attracted the attention of one other neighbor who joined her to open the door for Mr. Brown.

Some family members who spoke to this reporter suspected a land litigant in a land tussle with the victim as the likely brain behind the attack on Mr. Brown’s life.

District Commander in charge of the Somanya Police Command, ASP Isaac Otsin Kwadwo in an interview with Rite news confirmed the incident and the said investigations were underway to apprehend the suspects.
