Corporal Gifty Antwi, head of Somanya Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, said the circulation of sex tapes on social media is a criminal offence against the laws and cautioned perpetrators to desist from it.
“Section 280 and 281 of the criminal codes and Article 18 of the 1992 Constitution rendered it criminal and punishable by law,” she quoted.
Circulation of sex tapes and pornographic materials on social media platforms have being on the rise in the country in recent times, the situation Corporal Gifty described worrisome.
“Women who go through this harm do commits suicide,” the DOVSU head alleged.
Corporal Antwi Gifty associated some reasons to the cause saying; strong love affection between partners, technology and peer pressure.
“Some causes have to do with demonstration of love to each other, curiosity, peer pressure and technological advancement,” she expressed.
The law enforcer further said, the menace could cause teenage pregnancy among girls.
On the measures to curtail the menace, the Police Officer advised that more education is needed by the appropriate authorities including the police.
