Rite FM Ends Two Day MAASI Workshop In Somanya

Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly in the eastern region, the last of six districts being toured by the Rite FM Mobilizing Action towards Agriculture Sector Improvement, MAASI, workshop had its turn on the 15th and 16th of October at the YKMA conference hall at Somanya.

At Yilo Krobo, a number of issues cropped up including the need for the YKMA to establish an agriculture sub-committee, the need for the district to prioritize agriculture, the potentials of the district as well as the several challenges confronting the farming sector.

Representatives of Farmer-based organizations, representatives of the district assembly including the Municipal Chief Assembly, honourable Andrews Soda as well as other concerned stakeholders were present at the workshop.

Of utmost concern to the Department of Agriculture is inadequate funding which limits its core mandate. But some stakeholders still insisted that the district assembly can generate enough resources through expanding its tax nets.

The workshops which have already made various stops in Manya Krobo municipal, Asuogyaman, Upper Manya Krobo and Akuapem north districts in the eastern region as well as the Shai Osudoku district in the Greater Accra region have unearthed a number of bare fact issues confronting the farming industry as well as the various district assemblies.
