President Denies Oyster Mushroom is GMO

The National President of Mushroom Growers Association of Ghana, Rev. Theophilus Kwartey has said that there is the  misconception of the general public that oyster mushroom is  a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO).

Rev. Kwartey speaking to Rite FM news in an interview explained that, the mushroom they cultivate is purely from seed which is nursed in a medium adding that, there is no application of chemicals.

According to him, all that they do for mushroom cultivation is purely organic which comprises the use of rice bran, wheat bran and sawdust as mediums to help germination.

“I want to allay the fear of the public and consumers that they are consuming something which is hygienic without any chemical implication” -Rev. Kwartey

Rev. Kwartey responding on how this misconception will affect the mushroom business noted that in time past,  it hindered the business growth of the mushrooms but hopes this will change.

He therefore appreciate Rite FM for helping them to create the awareness and now people are getting the whole concept of it whiles they patronize it.
