Presby Moderator commissions water projects for Northern and Upper presbyteries

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, has commissioned two water projects for the Northern and Upper Presbyteries of the Church at Tamale and Bolga respectively at the cost of GHC160, 000.

The Salem Water Project which is being spearheaded by the Department of Development and Social Services of the Church is expected to facilitate the mass production of quality refined water to residents of the area and beyond.

The move is in line with the church’s resolve to migrate incorporate business into the activities of the church whilst delivering on its traditional mandate of propagating the gospel of Christ.

The Moderator in a speech at separates commissioning ceremony said the aimed of the projects was to sustain the financial growth of the Presbyteries and also create employment opportunities to the teeming unemployed youth both within and outside the church.

Rev Martey called on the various congregations to enter into viable and productive business ventures in order not to depend on the offertories and tithes from church members to run the day today administration. He also mentioned that it would serve as another way of winning more souls for Christ.

Rev Martey cautioned management of the two water projects to be vigilant and ensure that proceeds from the sales are not mismanaged.

He added that his outfit would deal drastically with anybody whi found to be corrupt at all levels of the Church.

The Moderator again charged managers of the water project to attach total commitment into the running of the facility.

Rev Martey moreover urged them to take ownership of the facility devoid of financial mismanagement among other negativity.

He assured that his outfit would continue to adopt innovative and practical way of enhancing the growth of the Church.

The coordinator for the two projects, Mr Dan Kolbila, who is also the Lay Representative for Northern Presbytery on the General Assembly Council of the Church in a speech said the Presbyterian Church has over the years embarked on numerous social interventions to sustain the livelihood of the rural poor.

This, he said was evident in the establishment of schools and health facilities across the country.

Other areas include the establishment of Agricultural stations and hospitality centers among others.

He was convinced that with the existence of the water project, financial base of the two presbyteries was going to improve for the better.

The Chairperson for the two, Rev Dr Sulesa and Rev …….expressed their appreciation to the moderator for helping them to get the project.

The National Director for Development and Social Services Rev Daniel Asante on his part said to rejuvenate the business mindset of the Church, the Presbyterian Salem Financial Service had been started and registered as a limited liability company.

He mentioned that the church owned 50 per cent stake in the service, while the other 50 per cent was being floated for presbyteries, districts and congregations, as well as individuals in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

He also mentioned that the church had renovated the Presbyterian Press which was a division of the A-Riss Company to be the market leader in printing security and business forms, church service materials and other commercial printing items on the Ghanaian market.
