Poultry Farmers Receive Ghc 167,355.00 As Compensation

25 poultry farmers have received various compensations from the Government following the destruction of their birds earlier this year. Addressing the press at the Agric Resource Center in Accra, Dr. Hannah Bisiu said, the move was to curb the bird flu infestation that hit Ghana recently.

A ban was placed on the move of poultry and poultry products across the country, more especially in the Greater Accra Region.  Due to this Government has released a total sum of GH 1, 67,355 as compensation to the Farmers. The Hon Minister added that bird flu was still in the system and that they were doing their best to control it.

Mrs. Hannah Bisiw said Ghana was not the only country affected by this virus but countries like America, Holland, Germany, United Kingdom and the rest were all affected by this virus.

She was however optimistic that the safest chicken to eat is the Ghanaian chicken and she has therefore advised poultry farmers to join associations so that information can be sent to them.

Meanwhile rite FM in an interview with the president of the Poultry Farmers Association, Mr. Victor Oppong Agyei said the farmers were very happy with Governments support even though the money given them will not cover their entire losses.
