Police arrest Ablekuma South NPP organiser

The Accra Regional Police on Wednesday arrested the man who allegedly masterminded the disruption of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) press conference at Ablekuma South in Accra.

Mr Kofi Asante, who is the Ablekuma South Constituency organiser of the NPP, was granted bail after questioning.

A police source told the Daily Graphic that the suspect would report to the police for further interrogation today.

Last Tuesday, a planned news conference by a founder member of the party, Mr Joshua Attoh Quarshie, to call for unity in the party ahead of the 2016 elections turned violent as another group armed with machetes and other offensive weapons broke the plastic chairs and destroyed the canopies at the venue.

Gunshots were also fired by the mob.

Mr Ato Quarshie and his group accused the NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of being the cause of the disunity in the party and warned that the NPP risked losing the 2016 elections if the flag bearer did not change his style of leadership.

He also accused Nana Akufo-Addo of being behind the disruption of the news conference.
