Parents Told To Take Responsibility Of Students Upkeep

The deputy Public Relations Officer [PRO] for the Ghana Education Service in the Eastern region has advised parents to seriously take up the educational responsibilities of their children to create a good learning environment for them.

Mr Sikatse speaking to Rite news after a tour of some schools to mark ‘my first day at school’ with the deputy eastern regional minister advised parents to make sure that they provide their wards with the basic needs such as school bags, uniforms, sandals, books etc.

He told rite fm that it had come to the notice of the GES that some parents failed to adequately provide feeding needs for their wards in the various schools because they were enrolled onto the school feeding programme. He condemned such behavior from parents since what is provided under the feeding program cannot suffice for the food needs of their children.

That is not all; some parents also shy away from providing school uniforms for their children in the face of the government’s free uniforms provision. He said however that it is the responsibility of parents to make sure their wards have uniforms but not the government and should therefore not rely on government’s support to shirk their responsibilities.

He also urged parents who have their children in the Senior High Schools to pay their respective fees on time.
