NPP Walk For Change Rocks Lower Manya Krobo

Hundreds of supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party from Lower Manya Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo all in the Eastern region on Sunday marched through the principal streets of Lower Manya Krobo in  a march dubbed ‘Disappointed NDC Youth Crossed Over to NPP Health Walk.’

The march which was orchestrated by some aggrieved members of the ruling NDC who have defected to the NPP, was to show solidarity with their new found love, the NPP.

As early as 6:00am hundreds of supporters of the party drenched in party paraphernalia of the NPP had converged in front of the Ghana Commercial Bank situated at Kpong which was the starting point of the march.

Headline personalities advertised to star in the walk including Assin South Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, miss Ursula Owusu, MP for Tema West, Titus Glover among others however failed to show up. The absence of these personalities however did very little to dim the enthusiasm of a charged environment of party faithful who marched several kilometers from Kpong through Nuaso, Agomanya to Odumase all in the Lower Manya Krobo constituency.

Addressing the gathering at the Odumasi lorry park, National coordinator of the ‘Disappointed NDC Youth Crossed Over to NPP Health Walk,’ Mr. Robert Tettey-fio Adjase expressed gratitude to all the party faithful who came from far and near to honour the event. According to him, the massive crowd that showed up was a clear indication yet to the National Democratic Congress that Kroboland was ready for change.

Member of Parliament for Akyem Abuakwa South, Atta Akyea lamented that Krobos had been neglected by the NDC government despite consistently voting for the party. He therefore urged all registered voters to as a matter of priority vote for change in the upcoming general elections in December. ‘If we make the mistake of re-electing this government, all of us are doomed,’ he charged the crowd.

Honourable Atta Akyea urged Krobos to disregard speculations that a Nana Akuffo Addo led government would drive away Krobos from Akyem lands, describing such claims as baseless and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

He described as shear political propaganda promises by the NDC government to build a university on Krobo soil. According to him, that was just an attempt to throw dust into the eyes of Krobos, adding that there were no readily available funds to finance such a project.

In an interview with Rite news, National Coordinator of the ‘Disappointed NDC Youth Crossed Over to NPP’ Tettey-fio Adjase explained that the absence of the much highlighted personalities such as honourable Kennedy Agyapong and the other highlighted personalities was due to other pressing needs accounted for the absence of. According to him, honourable Kennedy Ayapong was in town on Saturday where he made live appeearances on Rite FM and KW radio.

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo on the ticket of the NPP, Mr. Samuel Nuettey Ayertey took the opportunity to encourage supporters of the party who had not as yet gone to check their names in the ongoing voter exhibition exercise to do so as a matter of urgency.

Other personalities including executives of the ‘Disappointed NDC supporters Crossed Over to NPP’ as well NPP executives in the involved constituencies, took turns to address the crowd.

The whole event was however incident free. Prior to the event, tensions went high as there were fears of a clash between supporters of the NPP and a group of faceless people who threatened to demonstrate against the presence of honourable Kennedy Agyapong who they said was not welcome to Krobo soil. This followed his comments that Electoral Commission chair, madam Charlotte Osei earned her position after providing sexual favours.
