NPP Government to Revive Agricultural Sector

By Prince Paul Amuzu:

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Alhaji Bodinga Umar has hailed the agric sector of the country as the sector that creates job avenues among the various sectors. According to Alhaji Bodinga, the Agricultural sector alone offers about 65% of the total job opportunities in the country but unfortunately the previous government which is the Mahama led administration did not seriously make provision for agriculture in its budget leading to the decline in the sector.

Speaking in an interview with host of the Ride Morning Ride, Krobea Asante on what provisions were made for the sector in the 2017 budget as presented by the minister of finance, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta, the chairman noted that the immediate past Mahama led administration did not pay much attention to the agricultural sector while preparing their budgets and which consequently led to its decline.

‘For instance, giving a host of cocoa farmers very minimal fertilizers led to the sector’s degradation which scores the previous government registering just one million metric tons and this a fact,’ Alhaji Bodinga asserted.

According to him, the new NPP administration will deliver massively on its promised policies captured in the budget to the development of the sector especially to create more jobs for the youth. He was also emphatic that the one village, one dam; one district one factory and also the constituency, one million dollars policies are not mere mirages but real intentions which his government intends pursuing through an action plan.

‘It’s an indication to curtail the problem of irrigation which is a major challenge to farmers  and also increase productivity and add value to Agric products through processing,’ he added.
