NPP finding an excuse for defeat in 2016 elections – Asiedu Nketiah

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s call for a replacement of the current alleged compromised voters register, is a ploy to find an excuse for its imminent defeat at the 2016 polls.

He described the NPP’s claims as baseless, adding that the largest opposition party has resorted to the strategy of finding fault, as a face saving exercise as the party sees defeat glaringly starring at it in the face.

The NPP at a Press conference yesterday addressed by its Vice Presidential Candidate Dr Mahamadu Bawumiah stated that the voters register must be replaced with a new one insisting that about 76,286 Togolese voters are on it hence must be scrapped.

They further argued that the register from 2008 to 2012 increased to 25% saying it does not make sense.

“An increase of the voters register by 25 percent between two elections is abnormally high and there are also several instances of this. One cannot credibly explain for example how increases in the voters’ register of magnitudes exceeding 40 percent can take place. Where did the people come from?” NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia questioned.

However addressing a press conference at the party’s Headquarters in Accra, Johnson Asiedu Nketia states that as typical of the NPP, it has always been quick to blame others for its defeat or misfortune.

“They know they are about to lose the 2016 elections and they shudder to think of such defeat. This will be three consecutive defeat for the NPP. They never do anything wrong but blame others. They did same in the 2012 elections blaming the EC, and also STL for intercepting election results, when their allegations were verified by a team from the African Union, it proved false. Till date there are still people who believe that innocent company really did what the NPP claimed”.

He noted that even if the NPP’s claims which are hugely doubtful is found to have any the slightest of basis, there are elaborate ways of dealing with such concerns, of which compiling a new voters register is not part.
