NPP behind Mahama’s assassination plot – NDC Chairman

National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman for Lower Manya Krobo, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of masterminding the attempted assassination of President Mahama.

The plot, according to David Walter Hormena, is to ensure their ‘power hungry’ flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo becomes president at all cost.

“I don’t believe that Charles man is insane, I believe it is a calculated attempt by the NPP just to eliminate President Mahama. They are same people claiming the man is mad just to shift our attention to their mad motive” he asserted.

On Tuesday July 28 an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri slapped a 10-year jail term on 36-year-old Charles Antwi for his confessed attempts to assassinate President John Mahama.

The circumstances surrounding the ruling have occupied the media landscape seemingly deeming the light on the personality of an individual who arguably attempted one of the most heinous crimes in Ghana’s history.

Though family of Charles Antwi claims he is ‘mad’ and has been mentally deranged for the past two years, the NDC guru indicated that “I don’t believe he is a mad man because a mad man will never go to a church with the intention of killing the president. I remember that was the same strategy they used to bomb our first president Kwame Nkrumah” he noted.

Mr. Hormena alleged that the NPP can’t wait for the 2016 election becasue they know they have lost the elections in advance.

He however lauded the security for discovering the man when he was fidgeting with the weapon in the church auditorium.

“I think the security forces have done very well and I will urge Mahama to promote them because this is the record sentence in the history of our country. And for the court too, they have been very swift and I thank them for not allowing anyone to interfere in their activities” he insisted.

But in a quick rebuttal, Deputy General Secretary of the opposition NPP, Nana Obiri Boahene urged the NDC Chairman to have his head examined.

“I think NDC man is no different from that gunman Charles Antwi, the only different I see between the two is that Charles is now in jail and he is walking out freely in the country and so I won’t take his claims as serious.

The NPP man said the NPP which has the interest of Ghana at heart will never wish the president dead.

“Im shocked at the comment of this NDC man but what is saying should be treated with the contempt it deserves”.

Nana Obiri Boahene urged the NDC Chairman to rather blamed the BNI for compromising the security of President Mahama.

“I blame the security for sitting down aloof and putting the safety of the President at risk” he stressed.
