The Asunafo North constituency youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Koku Edem has called for the legalization of marijuana in the country.
Edem in a leaked tape which is in possession of Adomonline.com claimed his call is based on the fact that persons who smoke Indian hemp are more intelligent.
“If you smoke wee, you become very bright…so we should learn from countries like Holland and legalise it…,” he said on the tape.
His comment has since been condemned on various platforms with appeals made to him to retract and apologise.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Evening News Thursday, Edem apologized profusely for the comments.
He accused his fellow NDC members in Asunafo North of circulating the tape just to tarnish his image.
“I am purely a Christian, even God knows I have not smoked or used wee in my life…I am apologizing for my comments…I withdraw these comments…,” he said.
